Chinese telco China Unicom and Huawei have jointly launched the world’s first 10G network that supersedes our standards for a speedy fiber internet. The feat was achieved in Xiong’an city, which is situated in Hebei Province’s Sunan County. It’s a milestone achievement for the state and the state-backed telco in its ambition to advance in broadband technology.
The epic fast network uses 50G Passive Optical Network (PON) technology, which improves data transmission across existing fiber-optic cables. In its perfectly set-up infrastructure, a 50G PON technology can deliver a duplex performance of 50 Gbps. It’s also called the Fiber to the X (FTTx) technology.
Coming to the network that went live, it successfully demonstrated a download speed of 9834 Mbps and an upload speed of 1008 Mbps. Also, it demonstrated a latency of just 3 milliseconds.

How fast is a 10G internet?
A 10G internet is quite fast. It’s fast enough that it can download a 4K movie of 20 GB in under 20 seconds. See, gone are the days we talk about an FHD movie to measure download speed and time.
But its chance of being used for regular users for regular internet browsing, such as surfing social media, watching and downloading videos, is low. Rather, such a highly fast broadband network is to be used in virtual reality (VR), 8K streaming, telemedicine, e-learning, industrial applications, etc.
A 10G internet helps China surpass the competition
The surreal speed achieved with it is 10G gigabit internet can help it compete with Singapore and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), which consistently perform best in broadband networks. They, according to Statista, have 345.3 Mbps and 313.5 Mbps download speeds on average.
The technology is also a well-planned strategy of China as it seeks to lead the world in communications. It seems that the sky is the only limit for China.
