Apple’s key supplier, Foxconn, is set to double its iPhone production in India by the end of 2025. The decision aligns with the US phone maker’s plans to diversify its production and supply chains in an attempt to lessen its reliance on China.
Currently, Foxconn is carrying out limited production trials at its Bengaluru facility. The Economic Times reports that it’s a key attempt to ramp up iPhone production in India.
The trials will help the Taiwanese multinational electronics contract manufacturer find out the capacity of the facility for the increased production plans. It shall also see whether the place meets Apple’s working standards, even in a situation when it starts assembly at an extremely high volume.
Foxconn seeks to benefit from the tax cuts the Indian government has recently implemented in smartphone components.
Foxconn has increased its iPhone assembly targets in India in recent years. In 2024 alone, the company assembled around 12 million iPhone units. Now, it has set a target to reach 25 to 30 million by the end of 2025. Apple is also planning to recruit more employees to assemble iPads, MacBooks, and AirPods in India. Apple started iPhone production in India in 2017.
Apple has also opened Apple stores in Mumbai and Delhi, which confirms its new ambitions and objectives in the South Asian region.
