Sercomm, Brodcom partnership for WiFi 8 router

Taiwanese telecom gear maker, Sercomm Corporation, has announced a partnership with Broadcom for a WiFi 8 router. The deal will see the Asian firm use Broadcom’s chipset and other infrastructure for WiFi 8 platforms.

“Wi-Fi 8 is a strategic enabler for carriers aiming to differentiate on experience, not just bandwidth,” stated Derek Elder, President of Sercomm’s Service Provider Business Group.

“We are proud to be among the first OEMs partnering with Broadcom to introduce Wi-Fi 8 connectivity solutions. Together, we’re providing operators a turnkey platform that unifies next-generation connectivity, smart-home orchestration, and edge intelligence – all within a single device,” he added.

Fundamentally, WiFi 8 will be more about overall network improvement than just faster speed. It will utilize 2.4GHz, 5GHz, and 6GHz bands, but with wider 320 MHz channels. One can see similarities with WiFi 7 features. But there will be improvements in latency, reliability, and consistency. WiFi 8 is expected to have a theoretical speed of up to 46 Gbps.

Sercomm will display WiFi 8 hardware at Network X 2025

The new hardware will be on display at the Network X 2025 in Paris, France. It will have native machine learning functions that can improve performance dynamically. Additionally, the hardware will support Matter smart-home standards and fiber-to-the-room technology.

For now, WiFi 8 is years from certifications, but Sercomm’s developments indicate that work is already underway for the next-generation wireless communications technology.
