India’s leading operator Reliance Jio Infocomm has announced that it’s completed nationwide 5G deployment in India. The achievement marks a milestone for the conglomerate in the race to lead the 5G amidst fierce competition from Airtel.

The company chairman Mukesh Ambani recently shared Jio’s pan-India coverage during a presentation at the Tamil Nadu Global Investors Meet 2024 where he said that Jio 5G has reached all towns and cities across India. Mr. Ambani also claimed that Jio had the fastest 5G global rollout globally.

The credit where it’s due. Jio has been aggressive in expanding its “True 5G” across India with the Standalone (SA) infrastructure since late 2022. The operator is also equipped with the largest share of spectrum to operate 5G and remains the sole owner of the radio waves in the 700 MHz band. The company has in store 5G spectrums in the 700 MHz, 3.5 GHz, and 26 GHz bands which enables it to offer a balance of speed and coverage for the fifth-generation network.

Jio is collaborating with Swedish telco gear vendor Ericsson for 5G equipment. The company has also launched JioAirFiber (5G Fixed Wireless Access) which further amplifies its benchmark for the network in India.

It’s also tapping into the AI. There is news that Jio will cooperate with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay to create a chatbot called BharatGPT to challenge OpenAI’s ChatGPT.

Jio revolutionized India’s telecom industry with its 4G network and seeks the same disruption with 5G and seems to be in the right direction.
