Indian firm HFCL has officially announced the launch of its locally made 5G fixed wireless access (5G FWA) CPE (consumer premises equipment) for telecom companies. The devices are already put on trial with domestic and international customers.
With the FWA, the company will enable operators to provide their customers with a 5G broadband network without the hassles of establishing expensive infrastructure. For the unaware, FWA refers to a technology that establishes connectivity between two points using radio links. Using this technology, operators can provide internet service wirelessly to residential customers and businesses without fiber and other gear.
HFCL says that 5G FWA has already gone under trial for domestic and international clients and expects the global 5G FWA market to reach $68 billion by 2030.
HFCL’s 5G FWA solution works with a sub-6 GHz mmWave band. It’s ideal for both Standalone and Non-standalone 5G networks.
HFCL’s FWA CPE business will be closely identified with India’s major telecom operators. Jio has already commercialized its 5G FWA solution called JioAirFiber which has already been commercial and available in 514 cities across 25 states in India. Airtel’s FWA service Xstream is available I Delhi and Mumbai.
HFCL unveiled India’s first-ever 5G FWA CPE solution at the India Mobile Congress on October 27. The company will mass produce its FWA CPE at a manufacturing facility in Delhi-NCR.
