Deutsche Telekom brings AI Phone with AI

Deutsche Telekom has launched an AI Phone in 9 countries with a strong emphasis on affordable AI services. The phone comes with Perplexity Assistant for different AI works, and the whole thing comes at the base price of €149.

The launch of the AI Phone could mark a new milestone in the smartphone industry with its AI prowess. Most smartphones these days boast their AI capabilities. For manufacturers, their phone’s AI is one of the pitching points these days. But the AI Phone, which by default promotes itself as an AI device, could significantly take the market up a notch.

More on the Deutsche Telekom device- AI Phone

The AI Phone of Deutsche Telekom can access the Perplexity Assistant via a “magenta button,” and it can do a range of tasks quite easily for users. It includes entering calendar details, translations, booking a restaurant, summarizing information, etc.

The Perplexity AI tool is also integrated with other apps for doing various tasks. Queries can be answered in both written and voice form.

The company says the following, describing its generosity and the efficiency of its AI Phone.

“The AI-phone assists with many different tasks in customers’ daily lives. What shall I cook today? I’ve got some ingredients left, but no recipe. My child wants to hear a bedtime story. I’m not inspired today. Where is my favourite band playing their next concert? Why are my plants drooping again? And how can I remain fit, while barely having any time to exercise?”

AI Phone cost and offer

Deutsche Telekom says that its AI Phone will sell at €149 and AI-tablet at €199 in Germany. The devices come with an 18-month subscription to Perplexity Pro and Perplexity Assistant, and the latter will be available on the phone permanently. It’s said that a Pro version for the phone will come later in 2025.

The AI Phone and AI Tablet can be purchased in various European markets such as Germany, Austria, Croatia, Czechia, Greece, Hungary, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Poland, and Slovakia as of today, though we are told prices vary across markets.

“Together with trusted partners, we’re bringing the AI-phone to people across Europe. It takes care of everyday tasks and quickly finds reliable information, saving you time and energy,” said Dominique Leroy, Board Member for Europe at Deutsche Telekom. “So you can focus on what truly matters – where your ideas, creativity, and personal touch make the real difference.”

Claudia Nemat, Board Member for Technology and Innovation at Deutsche Telekom, added: “Artificial intelligence is the big technology of our time. It changes a lot. But there is still some reluctance. We believe AI offers significant opportunities. To use those, people need to take part and try out AI tools. ‘Our’ AI-phone and Magenta AI features in the app give our customers compact access to various AI services and allow them to explore this technology first-hand.”

The AI Phone and the inclusion of Perplexity AI could be significant for the latter to expand its prominence among smartphones. Other than that, though, most AI features on this AI Phone seem rather familiar. But the phone’s pricing is definitely a key selling point.
