Vodafone UK has added 5G ‘Speed Boost’ that delivers consistent network performance even in crowded places. If you happen to use services around train stations, concerns, stadiums, etc., then this extra value differentiation is for you.
The extra boost is available for users of both monthly and PAYG plans. It costs £3 for 1 day, £5 for 7 days, £10 for 30 days, or £10 per month (recurring basis).
How does Speed Boost work?
There’s no official explanation on how Speed Boost works to improve the 5G experience for end users. However, the operator’s site mentions that it works by offering network priority in busy places. There are conditions, too. It comes with data caps, meaning that it’s not unlimited with the highest possible speed, and the service works with 5G devices only. Here’s what the telco says in its terms and conditions.
“Speed Boost gives you network priority in busy locations, like train stations or events. With an Xtra Global Roam plan, you’ll get prioritisation in the UK only, for up to 200GB per month; any data used beyond this won’t be prioritised until the next billing cycle. Speed caps still apply. Speed Boost is compatible with 5G devices only.” Check out: Key 5G advantages
So, this is how users get priority for their data experience:
Vodafone Speed Boost
- Up to 10 GB (1 day)
- Up to 50 GB (7 days)
- Up to 200 GB (30 days)
- £10 per month (recurring basis)
These are subject to the users’ maximum speed of existing plans.
A new emerging trend?
The fact that the Speed Boost improves data experience in crowded areas tends to prop up a potentially new trend in the industry. Services are not treated for 5G data or voice in general, but what gets more priority in a certain place or at a certain time. And with 5G and mobile data getting more prominent for our needs, we might as well seethe equivalent of Speed Boost features on more operators’ offerings.
