Indian company Sarvam has started an AI chat app, Indus, for web and mobile phone users. The move aspires to compete with the global leaders such as OpenAI, Google, Meta, etc.
The launch took place at the India AI Impact Summit 2026, a flagship event that drew attention for many right and not-so-right reasons. Anyway, the start of the Ithe ndus app is a new mark for the country’s growing aspirations in the AI landscape.
The platform runs on a 105-billion-parameter large language model, which is called Sarvam 105B. There’s anoter toned down version with 50 billion parameters.
The platform enters the industry against the lead ChatGPT, which now has over 100 million active users in India.

Indus app targets Indian users
Indus chat app is currently in its beta phase and is designed with Indian users in mind. It can respond in both text and audio. Just like with other platforms, signing in is easy with phone number, Google/Microsoft account, and Apple ID. The app is available on Android, iOS, and the web.
Talking of some of the features, it keeps chat history like other chatbots. But users can’t delete history without deleting their account. At the same time, there’s no option to disable the reasoning mode. The company says that the users might see waitlists as the company continues to increase its computing capacity.
Sarvam Co-founder Pratyush Kumar said that the company will continue to refine user experience and is seeking users’ feedback to improve upon.
