Samsung has said that it wants to buy and use 50,000 NVIDIA graphics processing units with the objective of improving its chip manufacturing for smartphones and robots. The development marks a milestone deal between these two tech giants.
Samsung says that the NVIDIA GPUs will create an “AI Megafactory”. The South Korean conglomerate is a globally renowned company for smartphones, home appliances, and robotics. So, its partnership with the GPU maker will further help improve and increase its efficiency in manufacturing.
But it’s not a first-time partnership at all. In fact, Samsung is a supplier for NVIDIA. It makes high-performance memory for NVIDIA. Their latest partnership only enhances their collaboration.
NVIDIA has struck up deals with Samsung, Nokia, Uber, etc.
NVIDIA recently reached a deal with Nokia, and with Samsung’s collaboration, it’s also accentuating its stakes in the silicon market. Chips remain a key for the company, which is used to roll out and improve AI use cases. Besides Samsung, NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang said that it’s also collaborating with companies such as Palantir, Eli Lilly, CrowdStrike, and Uber.
“We’re working closely with the Korean government to support its ambitious leadership plans in AI,” Raymond Teh, Nvidia’s senior vice president of Asia-Pacific, said to reporters.
The Samsung partnership has furthered NVIDIA’s stock, becoming the first to reach a market cap of $5 trillion.
Now, NVIDIA will closely work with Samsung to adapt to the latter’s chipmaking lithography process. The GPU maker says that the result will be 20x better performance for Samsung. It’s said that the South Korean firm will also use Omniverse, NVIDIA’s simulation software.
Going forward, Samsung will use NVIDIA GPUs to improve its AI features in smartphones and robotics.
