Google offers free Gemini AI for Jio users

Google is offering a free subscription to Gemini AI for 505 million users of Reliance Jio, the largest telecom operator in India. The facility, available for 18 months, comes after OpenAI made a similar promotional offer for users in the South Asian nation. The move is expected to bolster its market presence and lure in more users in the populous country.

The move comes amidst fierce AI competition in India. Recently, OpenAI offered free access to ChatGPT Go in India for a year. Companies are competing to get a higher user base quickly to cash in on the long term.

Google recently announced that it will invest $15 billion in AI infrastructure projects. India is one of the growing hubs for the technology landscape. The country’s 1 billion internet users are a testament to its potential for the AI market.
