CBNG launches VectaStar NR, 5G-based Fixed Wireless Broadband Platform

The Cambridge Broadband Networks Group (CBNG) has launched a Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) platform – VectaStar NR. The kit is said to deliver fiber-like internet performance using 5G technology.

The service has been pitched as providing advanced and efficient service without running into the challenges of fiber, such as deployment time and cost.

About VectaStar NR

CGNG’s VectaStar NR utilizes mmWave radio waves and a Point-to-Multipoint (PtMP) architecture to serve households, businesses, campuses, and public sectors. It also brings advanced beam-forming phased-array antennas, which make it easier for companies to integrate, scale, and manage networks. The advantage? The process enables operators to deploy the network in “days rather than months, while maintaining carrier-grade reliability and predictable quality of service“.

What CBNG says about it?

CGNG says that the platform delivers higher data throughput, with the speed reaching up to 6.5 Gbps per 90° sector. It achieves 3.5 Gbps at 5 km of distance. But these are the ‘lab test’ numbers and don’t translate to reality in real use cases when the network is congested with many users connected to it. A lot depends on the radio spectrum deployed, too.

The kit works with the 1260 band and will soon work with n257, n258, n259, and 261 nbands.

The company wishes to deliver VectaStar NR for mobile operators, ISPs, etc., with deployment in CCTV, campus network, etc. CGNG will show the technology at Mobile World Congress 2026 in Barcelona.
