5G rollout begins in Cambodia in phases

According to the country’s Ministry of Post and Telecommunications, 5G will be expanded in phases. In the beginning, the capital Phnom Penh and select areas in provinces such as Siem Reap, Kandal, Svay Rieng, Kampong Speu, Takeo, Kampong Cham, Kampong Thom, Prey Veng, Kratie, Kampong Chhnang, Pursat, Preah Sihanouk, Stung Treng, and Kampot will get the taste of the next-generation network on their eligible devices.

The ministry has shared that more areas in other provinces will be covered with 5G later. However, no definitive timeline was offered.

5G advantages include much faster data rates, low latency, and consistency, among others. The government expects 5G to enhance the country’s digital transformation and support its industries, and generate new innovation and opportunities.

The country boasts 19.6 million internet subscribers while having 20.6 million mobile subscribers.
