BSNL starts Swadesh 4G Network to connect 27,000 villages

India’s government-owned telecom company Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has started “Swadesh 4G Network” that will connect 26,700 villages with high-speed data services across the country. The initiative aligns with the recent efforts of the telco’s resurgence in the telecom market after years of decline behind Jio and Airtel.

The project is developed in India with Tata Consultancy Services (TSC), Center for Development of Telematics (C-DoT), and Tejas Networks Limited. In recent years, India has given more priority to the development of ingenious telecom technologies, which also involved indigenous 5G. This one has come for the government-owned telecom for 4G.

Let’s not forget that the Swadesh 4G Network of BSNL makes India only the fifth country to have created its own telecom technology stack for 4G LTE.

“As a mission mode program, TCS spearheaded its execution by establishing data centers, installing and commissioning C-DOT’s EPC Core Application, Tejas’s Base Stations and Radio infrastructure over 100,000 sites and leveraging TCS’s Cognitive Network Operations (TCS CNOPSTM) platform for 24×7 real-time network management,” TCS stated.

BSNL enhances 4G reach with Swadesh 4G Network

BSNL’s locally developed 4G will bring its total reach to over 2.2 crores at cheap rates. The connectivity also democratizes digital inclusion as people in both urban and rural settings are exposed to highly reliable data and voice services. Besides, telemedicine, smart agriculture, and eLearning have been enabled by the fourth-generation cellular technology.

“Today, we celebrate a monumental achievement for national pride. The nationwide rollout of our indigenous 4G network, built on the strength of collaboration with TCS, Tejas Networks, and C-DOT, is a resounding declaration of an Atmanirbhar Bharat,” said A. Robert J. Ravi, CMD, BSNL.

After the blockbuster Rs 1 Azadi Ka Plan, BSNL is now striding forward with its own India-made 4G network, promoting self-reliance and self-sufficiency.
