India’s state-backed telecom company BSNL (Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited) has rolled out a nationwide network-level anti-spam shield system. The mechanism aims at curbing scam and spam calls to enhance customer safety.
The company has developed the security system in cooperation with Tanla, an Indian cloud communications firm. The mechanism uses artificial intelligence, natural language processing, and DLT frameworks to filter messages in real-time, so that intended security work is processed instantly.

How does BSNL Shield work?
The BSNL shield system detects and blocks suspicious URLs found in SMS even before they reach the users. The result? Possible scam messages won’t reach the target users. What’s so cool about it is that the system doesn’t need any telco or third-party apps to work and won’t need any settings. Everything works itself out without any user intervention.
It’s said that the system
- Detects over 1.5 million scam attempts per day
- Bars 35,000 suspicious links, and
- Neutralizes over 60,000 scam numbers monthly
Scams are rampant, and more people are losing their money and peace of mind. SIM Swap, phishing, and credential theft have taken a huge sum of people’s money. BSNL’s anti-scam shield system is a decent layer of protection for users against any suspicious presence of scams.
The feature was first previewed at the India Mobile Congress 2024, and now, it has been launched to BSNL users across the country.
