BSNL (Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited) has launched Kavach Number to strengthen safety and privacy for female subscribers. The program was announced on International Women’s Day and is aimed at fortifying their personal details from possible misuse online.
Launching the initiative, the telco wrote on X, “Your number is personal. Your safety is powerful. With the BSNL Kavach Number, recharge without revealing your real number. Empowering women with secure and private connectivity,” BSNL said on microblogging platform X (formerly Twitter), on the occasion of International Women’s Day on Sunday.
What is the Kavach Number of BSNL, and how does it work?
BSNL’s Kavach Number is a new initiative to safeguard women’s personal contact details from misuse. It’s a security feature that provides an additional layer of security for women’s details so as to avoid any form of abuse of their numbers.

How does it work?
Kavach Number provides women with an alternative 10-digit number rather than revealing their actual phone number for commercial use. In reality, the alternative number is directly connected to the users’ original phone numbers. So, nobody gets to know users’ actual phone numbers. They get a sort of dummy number that hides their real phone number, issued by the company.
Users who use the feature get the optional catalogue number through SMS. Users can share this number at recharge outlets, retail, and other service centers where phone numbers come in use.
Earlier, BSNL lanched anti-scam shield to protect users from suspicious URLs. This new initiative is launched to address situations where women have to share their original phone numbers at retail stores or recharge points. Sharing a number could lead to women receiving unwanted calls, harassment, abuse, and misuse. By hiding the actual number with an alternate number, BSNL provides a secure way out for girls.
