The government of Belarus has announced that it will deploy a single 5G network across the country. The move seeks to streamline the carrier network in the country while also making telecommunications infrastructures more efficient and economically sound.
According to BeITA (a news agency), the country’s President, Aleksandr Lukashenko, has signed plans that aim at establishing a 5G cellular network in the country.
It’s said that the single 5G network system will be compatible with the modern-day telecom infrastructures in the country. It means that the country would deploy a Non-Standalone 5G, which basically means deploying a 5G network on existing 4G LTE gear.
5G has surreal advantages in speed and latency; however, going with the NSA 5G involves some skepticism. But still, it will leapfrog data performance possible on 4 G.
Belarus to deploy a single 5G network
BeITA report also confirms that the single 5G model will “include” a single network of 4G technology. Although the government announced plans for the cost-effective 5G deployment, it didn’t disclose the exact timeline for the rollout.
State-owned operator Beltelcom could be in charge of leading this new age of telecommunications for the country. In 2021, the telco said that it had tested 5G, while A1 also conducted testing in cooperation with Chinese telco gear vendor ZTE.
But unlike what the government is pitching now, A1 ran its 5G tests on Standalone architecture in 2020. Anyway, both telcos will be in charge of leapfrogging the country’s telco industry in the next few years.
