Airtel becomes world’s second-largest telecom company

Airtel has become the second-biggest telecom operator in the world after amassing 650 million customers worldwide. GSMA Intelligence has recognized the telco company as the second largest globally in terms of user base. The company has businesses in India and Africa.

After reaching the monumental feat, Airtel’s Executive Vice Chairman Gopal Vittal declared the achievement “a great responsibility”. He then expressed commitment to providing cutting-edge innovations and technologies to ensure safe and reliable connectivity for users.

Breaking down the user base, Airtel alone serves over 368 million people in India. It’s the first telco in the country to launch 5G Plus services. Besides 5G, it provides Xstream and IPTV services too. At the same time, Airtel Africa provides connectivity services in 14 countries for over 179 million customers. The services include voice, data, and roaming services.

Among its major innovations, Airtel Money has played a key role in digitalizing payment, offering instant payments and banking services to millions on the continent.

In the meantime, Airtel Business is involved in expanding the company’s portfolio with a hand in Airtel IQ, DS-WAN, IoT, etc. Not just these, Airtel is providing satellite internet in partnership with Eutelsat, OneWeb, and SpaceX to millions in the near future.
