Charter Communications’ free internet: What’s the catch?

The free internet offered by Charter Communications comes with a cap on data speed. But also, the offer is for people who switch lines from a competitive carrier. And when you cancel the mobile line, the offer also terminates. The four lines and internet service are available for $120.

The company provides its wireless broadband via its partnership with Verizon Communications.

Charter chief executive officer Chris Winfrey said, “That’s a relatively small audience that’s willing to convert over four lines in one single fell swoop. But it is a good way to express value to consumers.”

The company is adamant that the free internet offer is receiving a good reception among the customers. Time will tell whether it will set a new trend in the industry or just expire as a promotion that didn’t fly.
